“Into the Light”
12/17
Oil on linen
9″ × 12″
This was done on location at Leo Carrillo State Park at sunset, while painting with Peter Adams, the president of California Art Club. As is often the case when I am painting these “glare” paintings looking into the sun, I hold my right arm in front of my face as a shield. Then I look at the effects of the sunlight obliquely. The mist of the ocean helps diffuse the glare somewhat, but it is a challenge to depict these scenes.
This piece was exhibited at On Location in Malibu 2015 at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art.
